FAST FACTS
ARE CARTAGENA AND MEDELLÍN SAFE?
You’ll be safe walking around the cities in the day, hiking popular routes, relaxing on beaches, and going to bars and restaurants at night.
But Colombia has its challenges and you should practice caution while traveling. It is not advisable to walk around in quiet streets or through a park at night, and avoid hiking alone on a secluded trail.
We suggest taking Ubers at night, which are accessible, safe and affordable. There have been a few incidents reported with petty theft. But many travelers come to these cities and travel without incident.
Remember to observe caution, move in groups at night, take Ubers and avoid secluded areas.
WILL I HAVE WIFI OR CELL SERVICE?
Yes. We only book accommodation that has WiFi. Local SIM cards are cheap at the airport but make sure to check the data plan before you buy.
HOW CAN I GET AROUND?
Most activities in Cartagena are within walking distance. For any long distance activities, we hire a driver.
In Medellín, Ubers are cheap and readily available.
ARE THERE COWORKING SPACES AND COOL COFFEE SHOPS?
Thanks to the prominent coffee culture, there’s no shortage of cool cafés, from the traditional and local hangouts in Cartagena to the more modern and sleek in Medellín.
If you need to get some work done in the beach town of Cartagena, we suggest using the comfort of your accommodation. And in urban Medellín, we can help you find a comfy coworking space, no problem.
IS THERE FOOD FOR DIFFERENT DIETS AND SAFE DRINKING WATER?
Most street food is cheap, delicious and clean but all stomachs have a different tolerance. We let you decide how daring you’d like to be.
You’ll find diverse types of food to accommodate all dietary restrictions at almost any restaurant, but vegetarians should confirm when ordering, as many dishes can include meat that may not be listed on the menu.
Tap water is ok to drink in Colombia but we recommend drinking bottled water.
