Why Cape Town?

Never choose between the ocean and the mountain again! Beautiful and sexy with cool beach-y yet hiker attitude with extreme vibes of chill mode. Be prepared to make words like lekker, sundowners, bra’ and braai, as part of your main vocabulary.

The Peaks and Hikes
It’s a hikers paradise in Cape Town, and we may just put you up to take on the 3-peak challenge! Lion's Head, Devil's Peak and Table Mountain are drop-dead gorgeous hiking trails but are no joke. Do not fear, there are different hikes of various levels and we can gradually work our way up to the iconic Table Mountain. For non hikers, there’s a cable car that takes you straight up the mountain, so that you can enjoy the views, take some wine / snacks with you and click away in your pretty attire. Beware of the sweaty-hiker onlookers :)
Beaches
A city with mountains and beaches??? Say what now?! Yes, hence why this city reigns among people’s top choice once they have traveled to it. The beaches are numerous and everyone of them is beautiful with gorgeous sunsets. From the colorful Muizenberg beach to the pristine Llandudno beach, you can chose to randomly join a beach volleyball game, or rent umbrellas to read under until your breath is taken away by the dramatic skies and colors during sunset. Make sure to pack plenty of sunscreen!
Vineyards
Have you had South African wine yet? If you are even slightly surprised by that question, you won’t be after this experience. Cape Town has some stellar wineries of which Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Constantia are well known. The selection of whites and rose’s for a summery day, or reds with the sun setting over the country side is unparalleled. One can also indulge in activities like wine tasting or a wine tram where, you guessed it, you get to drink / taste wine all day while being just a wee bit silly.
The Coffee Culture
Tea used to run the Mother City back in the day. However, there’s a vibrant, fun and quirky coffee culture brewing in Cape Town. From extensive artisanal coffee choices to cafes that pride themselves in creating that perfect brunch affair with Açai bowls and avocado toasts, you will wake up longing to have that mid-morning soiree EVERY-DAY.
Art and Heritage
Cape Town is rich in history. With the abolishing of apartheid rather recently (~25 years ago), the country and city has evolved to be a melting pot of cultures. The struggle, the living, the survival and the victories are all depicted and celebrated through various forms of art and paintings, music, food and dance. Several museums and graffiti art spread through the city, show the dichotomy between preserving the old and the emergence of the new alternate culture. There is truly something for everyone.
Wild Life
’Tis is Africa! Though Cape Town doesn’t necessarily come up when we talk about safaris and wild life camping, you will be surprised at the numerous opportunities one has to see some of these beautiful and majestic creatures. There are plenty of natural reserves around where you can pet the Cheetahs, boulder through a penguin habitat or camp out in a nearby reserve to get a glimpse of the Big 5.

Fast Facts

Is Cape Town safe?
Walking around the city in the day, hiking the popular routes, relaxing on beaches, and going to bars and restaurants at night is safe. However, since Cape Town has it's own challenges like a few major cities, caution while traveling must be taken. It is not advised to walk around in quiet streets or through a park at night, or hike alone on a secluded trail. We suggest taking Ubers at night, which are very affordable (less than $3-4), accessible, and safe. There have been a few incidents reported with petty thieves, however, a lot of travelers come to this city and travel without any incidents. Remember to observe caution, move in groups at night, take Ubers, and avoid secluded areas.
Is there still a water crisis?
The water situation has improved a lot from 2017. With effective water conservation efforts, the discovery of new reservoirs, and a little help from mother nature, the city no longer has a “Day 0”! Although the water restrictions have been removed, we would always recommend being aware and judicious with water, no matter where in the world we travel :)
Will I have Wifi or cell service?
Yes! We will only get accommodation that has WiFi. Local sim-cards are cheap at the airport. Make sure to check the data plan before you buy.
HOW CAN I GET AROUND CAPE TOWN?
Ubers are the way to go! They are very safe, affordable, and arrive quickly.
Are there cool coffee shops?
If you’re into coffee and love exploring new coffee joints, you are in for a treat! There are very few cities in the world that can match Cape Town’s coffee culture. From steam-punk themed to super hipster jungle themed Cafés, Cape Town has plenty of options for the coffee-aficionados.
Is there food for different diets and safe drinking water?
The food scene in Cape Town is very diverse catering to every palette. You can find plenty of vegan restaurants and places that serve up those healthy acai bowls with chia seeds (if you’re into that kind of stuff like we are!), along with the 7-course meals made by world renowned chefs. Even though tap water is ok to drink in Cape Town, we recommend drinking bottled water.
